About Revisions

In the beginning of this semester I didn't do a revision and my grade suffered for it. On the second essay I decided to have a friend and a learning coach revise my essay which helped a lot. This time around I sent in an essay to the professor and to the friend and learning coach in hopes that I will be able to boost my grade once more. After some trial and error with revisions I have decided I should keep doing them. I came to this conclusion because when I write I only see what I meant to say and how it sounded in my mind. However, when someone else reads this they might not know how I am thinking. When I have other people look at my essays they point out things I could make stronger and parts I should change in order to get my message across more clearly.

  1. Getting another persons perspective on your writing is a good idea. In my other English classes we would review each others and give 3 good and 3 helpful criticisms and that was always helpful. When I read my own it sounds just fine to me also.

  2. I agree that getting another persons perspective is a good idea. I usually have my mom and/or my husband help with that. I've also learned that if you read it out lout, even if to yourself, you will also catch some things that don't make as much sense or any other errors. Good luck with your paper!!

  3. I have to have input from other people. I don't know if I read aloud in some obscene way but, I never catch mistakes by reading aloud. I know that is more of an editing thing but I seem to always get feedback read this out loud, I do and still can't figure out what I missed. I do find that another perspective is vital in writing a well balanced paper.
